Review

This review applies to version 2.2 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

This is a program intended to link the WM Encoder with the broadcaster developers' page formats and requirements. Broadly speaking, to use it you must do the following:

You need first to download and install two pieces of software: Windows Media Encoder and TVUBroadcast. Once the installation is complete, TVUBroadcast will start. Also you should have a TVU account, to be able to create a channel on the web page. Upon starting TVUBroadcast, the sign-in page pops up, and a small blue TVUBroadcast icon appears in the tools tray. Enter your registered email address and password, click "Please Sign In" to log into TVUBroadcast. The broadcaster keeps running in background.

From the drop down menu, select the channel to which you want to broadcast . If you don't have a channel yet or want to create a new one, click on the Create New Channel button; fill out the form and click "Submit". Refresh the sign in page, and the new channel name will appear in the drop down list. Select it. Select the Source tab source, and you find three options.
1. Live audio/video option
For this option, you need to have your audio and video capture devices or board on your computer. Those capture devices include TV Tuner and web cam. Select the device you want from the pull-down menu.
2. Live stream option
If you already have a stream ready, you can simply check "Live Stream" and enter the stream URL.
3. File list option

TVUBroadcast can also broadcast video files. Choose the file(s) you want to broadcast from your computer local disks (all of them must be in WMV format), The files would automatically loop during broadcasting.

TVUBroadcast will intelligently select the correct bandwidth according to your Internet connection speed.

Before broadcasting, you can also configure the advanced options. Select the Options tab; specify your broadcast port and target upload bandwidth, and then press "OK". Broadcast port tells TVUBroadcast which port to transmit on. If not set, the software will pick the port itself. the Target upload bandwidth option instructs TVUBroadcast to try to optimize for a specific upload bandwidth; if not set, once again the software will make the best use of whatever bandwidth is available. If you selected a private channel, on this tab you will see a Private Key field.

Start broadcasting clicking on the Start button; this opens an agreement dialog, click on the I Agree option, and wait for the broadcasting to get ready.

The Monitor tab allows you to monitor the status of your broadcast, your video, viewers number and signal strength.

To stop broadcasting, just click on the Stop button (be careful, when you close the browser, the TVUBroadcast is still running in the background).
To exit the system, right click the blue icon and select "Exit".
Advantages
  • None, there are many web sites of this kind that do not require special software or third party encoder to be installed on the user's computer
Disadvantages
  • It is very complex and does not provide more benefits or options that other sites
